Scott Clevinger
Scott Clevinger learned his first business lesson as a kid growing up along the historic banks of Virginia's James River. His dad was a shipbuilder from Newport News Shipbuilding, the world's premier shipyard. The original motto of the company, established in 1886, was a quote from its founder, Collis Potter Huntington: "We build good ships here, at a profit if we can, at a loss if we must, but always good ships."
When Scott thinks of his father, a man he admires greatly who died of cancer at the age of 48, he remembers these words. They describe his father's mindset perfectly. They also inspire Scott to always take pride in his work.
Scott's career has taken him around the world - from Seattle to New York City and Denmark to Brazil. He brings a rich and diverse background; he describes his path over the years as "one progressive building block on top of another." Scott has worked as an educator, entrepreneur, corporate communications designer, technologist, department manager, project manager, business executive, and consultant. He has managed the implementation of numerous business and production systems, coordinated the architectural master planning of a $75 million office building in Rio de Janeiro, and led a $150 million, fast-track consolidation of production facilities for the largest metropolitan newspaper in the U.S.
Scott has served hundreds of clients ranging from small businesses to Fortune 300 companies. An expert strategist and proven leader, he is valued for his attention to detail and ability to listen, absorb, learn, and communicate complex issues. He is comfortable working in areas with which he has little experience. "I've made a career of being thrown into the deep end of the pool over and over," says Scott.
Scott is a graduate of Christopher Newport College. He has studied project management through the American Management Association and the Project Management Institute, as well as internet business at Illinois Institute of Technology. He is an alumnus of the executive development program at Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
An avid cyclist, Scott has toured the Blue Ridge Mountains with his wife, ridden the famed Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay with his daughter, and spent summers on the Virginia racing circuit with his son. "Spending time 'handlebar to handlebar' is a great way to raise a family," says Scott.
