Michael Carnes

Michael Carnes is like a real-life Energizer Bunny - minus the bright pink fur and drum. He's happiest when he's going and going and going. He describes himself as an outdoor sports enthusiast with a bit of an endorphin addiction. The further he goes and the harder he pushes himself, the better the buzz. When we caught up with Michael one Sunday, he had just finished riding his bike 94 miles with an elevation gain of 9,500 feet. The ride left him feeling "awesome." That's nothing, though, compared to the way he feels after a grueling cyclocross race, where sometimes courses are so muddy, riders are forced to run up steep hills, carrying their bikes over their shoulders. "Those," says Michael, "make me feel like I'm a 12-year-old again."

As a consultant, Michael attacks problems much like he attacks hills - passionately. He combines his trademark exuberance with vast experience to get the job done quickly and with strong results. He brings more than 15 years experience in financial analysis, project management, auditing, and product development to the ACME team. He's done everything from launch a wireless internet service provider to lead a team spread across multiple domestic and international sites in the up-marketing of a commercial software package generating $120MM in annual revenues. Michael's expertise is valued in academic circles as well. He serves as an adjunct professor at Portland State University, teaching accounting information systems.

Whether he's leading a project, racing over a mountaintop, or helping shape tomorrow's business leaders, Michael draws most of his inspiration from the people around him. "I've been lucky to be surrounded by incredibly talented, hardworking and humble people my whole life," says Michael. "They include my parents and wife - each one a successful professional - and a long list of friends, some with amazing white-collar pedigrees, and others who are small business owners that barely made it out of high school. I want to be like all of them when I grow up."
