American Red Cross

A donation of knowledge
Jeff Foley

Once a month, Jeff goes down to the local American Red Cross, rolls up his sleeves and donates something valuable – his consulting experience. Jeff serves on the Health & Safety Committee, focusing on products and training and looking at trends in the industry.

Jeff’s first role was to help develop a marketing plan. He jump-started the process by providing a template to use for content and is now helping create a plan for the rest of the organization. What’s more, to monitor veins of income and outflow, Jeff is analyzing expenditures, employment trends, staff levels and other factors to create a model for forecasting expected revenue.

What brought Jeff to the American Red Cross? He wasn’t there to give blood. Actually, he went there for a tour, part of his involvement in the Portland Business Alliance’s Leadership Portland program. He was impressed by how many services were provided by the local Oregon Trail chapter and he saw there was definitely a need for help. And although he claims not to be afraid of needles, he chose to donate his knowledge rather than his blood. They were happy to accept it.
